COVENANT OF LOVE CHURCH
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our faith is grounded in the Word of God, centered in Jesus Christ, and lived through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.
THE WORD OF GOD • THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST • LIFE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH
ROOTED IN TRUTH.
LIVED BY FAITH.
Covenant of Love Church is a nondenominational Christian fellowship. We believe the Bible reveals God’s redemptive work through Jesus Christ and provides the foundation for Christian faith, doctrine, worship, and life.
These statements summarize the foundational doctrines that shape our teaching, ministry, fellowship, and service.
THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The Scriptures were given through people who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
We receive the New Testament as our authoritative and dependable guide in matters of Christian faith, conduct, and doctrine.
2 Timothy 3:16 · 1 Thessalonians 2:13 · 2 Peter 1:21
THE GODHEAD
We believe there is one God, eternally revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Word who became flesh. He existed with the Father from the beginning and is the only begotten Son of God.
We believe the Holy Spirit is eternal and proceeds from the Father and the Son, working in the world and in the lives of believers.
Deuteronomy 6:4 · Philippians 2:6 · John 1:1,14,18 · John 14:16,28 · John 15:26 · John 16:28
MAN, THE FALL & REDEMPTION
We believe humanity was created in the image and likeness of God. Through Adam’s transgression, sin entered the world and humanity became separated from God.
All people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to destroy the works of the devil and gave His life and shed His blood to redeem humanity and restore us to fellowship with God.
Salvation is the gift of God. It is not earned through human works or observance of the Law, but is received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Saving faith produces a life of good works pleasing to God.
Romans 3:10,23 · Romans 5:14 · 1 John 3:8 · Ephesians 2:8–10
ETERNAL LIFE &
THE NEW BIRTH
We believe repentance is an essential response to the Gospel. Through faith in Jesus Christ, the believer experiences the New Birth and receives new spiritual life.
The New Birth is necessary for salvation and brings the believer into eternal life through Christ.
2 Corinthians 7:10 · John 3:3–5 · 1 John 5:12
WATER BAPTISM
We believe water baptism by immersion is a direct command of Jesus Christ for those who have placed their faith in Him.
Baptism is an outward expression of the believer’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.
We baptize believers upon their confession of faith in Jesus Christ, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19 · Romans 6:4 · Colossians 2:12 · Acts 8:36–39
BAPTISM IN THE
HOLY SPIRIT
We believe the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a gift from God, promised by Jesus Christ to believers and received subsequent to the New Birth.
Through this experience, believers are empowered for Christian life and service. We believe the initial evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance.
Matthew 3:11 · John 14:16–17 · Acts 1:8 · Acts 2:1–4,38–39 · Acts 19:1–7
RESURRECTION
OF THE JUST
We believe Jesus Christ will come again.
At His coming, the dead in Christ will rise first, and believers who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air.
Acts 1:11 · 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
JESUS WILL RETURN
We believe Jesus Christ will return to the earth as King of kings and Lord of lords.
We believe He will reign with His saints in fulfillment of the promises revealed in Scripture.
Revelation 5:10 · Revelation 20:6
HELL & ETERNAL
RETRIBUTION
We believe every person will ultimately face God and that eternal destiny is determined by one’s relationship to Jesus Christ.
Those who die apart from Christ remain eternally separated from God. Scripture teaches a real and final judgment, while those who belong to Christ receive everlasting life in the presence of God.
Hebrews 9:27 · Revelation 19:20
SANCTIFICATION
We believe God calls His people to holiness.
Sanctification begins when a person is born again and continues as a progressive work of God’s grace throughout the Christian life. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, believers are progressively transformed into the likeness of Christ.
Hebrews 12:14 · 1 Thessalonians 5:23 · 2 Peter 3:18 · 2 Corinthians 3:18 · Philippians 3:12–14 · 1 Corinthians 1:30
DIVINE HEALING
We believe God continues to minister healing to the physical body through His power.
We believe healing may be ministered through the prayer of faith and the laying on of hands. Divine healing is provided through Christ’s redemptive work and remains available to the Church today.
James 5:14–15 · Mark 16:18 · Isaiah 53:4–5 · Matthew 8:17 · 1 Peter 2:24
FAITH IN ACTION.
BELIEVE THE WORD.
LIVE THE WORD.
Christian doctrine is not merely something to affirm. It is truth meant to shape the way we worship, pray, serve, love, and live.
